Abraham Lincoln decided that he would make something big out of his presidency and the Civil War. He did not view slavery as just an everyday issue; he saw it socially and politically wrong. In 1862, Abraham finally got the chance to determine that he must free all of the slaves. If he didn't, he would feel guilty minded for the rest of his time in office. In 1862, he took his chance and hoped that it would work. He fought as much as he possibly could, just so that all slaves were set free. A historical event in Lincoln's hands, and his decision was going to have a major effect on the world.

Abraham did not completely abolish slavery on his own since he was assassinated. However, he did free most of the slaves. He was known as "The Great Emancipator." The Civil War was a fight to make all men free. Abraham despised the thought of slavery. Lincoln feared that anyone who found out that the war was to end slavery would fly to the cause of the South and take away citizens freedom. That is when he made the Emancipation Proclamation. It did not free a single slave, but it said that their property would be forever free. Abraham Lincoln did everything slowly so that he would not lose the border states trust and lose soldiers during the fight. The Emancipation Proclamation freed only those "in rebellion" the other ones weren't freed until the 13th amendment.
